A Palace in the beautiful landscape of western Mecklenburg Pommerania. The area known as Mecklenburg’s Switzerland and the Mecklenburgian Lake District with more than a thousand small or large lakes, form one of Germany's most beautiful holiday and recreation areas. This sales property is a palace built from 1848 to 1853 according to the plans of Friedrich Hitzig, a student of the Prussian master architect Schinkel for the ducal treasurer Hans Friedrich von Oertzen, and intended to be a counterpart of Babelsberg castle in Potsdam which itself had been finished just a few years previously, in the then fashionable Tudor Gothic style.
The Palace Park used to be one of finest parks in Mecklenburg. It was designed by the famous Potsdam landscape gardener Joseph Peter Lenné. With a size of more than 202.716 m², it was also one of the largest parks in the region. Today the property has a surface of 202.716 m². Alongside the palace there is an historical water mill, built in 1750 approximately, a new garage compound with 10 large car parking spaces and a traditional ice-cellar (of two storeys).
Today’s owner purchased the palace in 1992 from Treuhandanstalt (National Trust) in a derelict state and by 1995 had accomplished a stylish renovation. The palace today has re-emerged as a rare and charming piece of architecture. An art-loving perfectionist, the owner travelled all over Europe to buy the finest antiques, with the ambition of re-creating the palace’s original décor. Among the showpieces are the library, the orangery, the bar in the whine cellar.
The Palace has a floor- and living-space of 2,200 m² distributed between three floors. On the ground floor are the lobby and reception, four halls restored in their original style, partly serving as a restaurant and also providing access to the park terrace. Additionally there is the Orangery, which now accommodates a café, two breakfast rooms, the main kitchen and eight bedrooms, a bedroom suite and the Administration Offices.
The first floor includes the historical Library with its adjacent balcony, as well as thirteen bedrooms, three suites and two storage rooms, as well as the so-called West Tower, of two storeys, which has still to be restored. The basement has the generously designed restrooms for the public area, a luxurious bar designed as a wine cellar, a club room and a spacious lounge. Additionally there are seven bedrooms, a preparation kitchen, a food storage room and two boxrooms.
